Account Director

AKQA NY is looking for a Seasoned Account Director with at least 1 year experiencing leading Digital Product & Services focused workstreams to lead up a very important workstream that is part of the second largest account at AKQA NY. The Account Director will be accountable for the success of this partnership engagement, will serve as the main point of client contact, help build consensus, facilitate and bridge cross-team communication, and ensure alignment across the key stakeholders identified.

  • Relationship Management
    • Successfully grows long-term, trusted relationships with senior level clients (Directors and below) and plays a lead role in securing incremental revenue
    • Is seen as a leader by clients, driven by insight led thinking and an in-depth knowledge of the clients’ business
    • Recommends solutions to key issues facing clients and helps clients establish team structure, goals and collaborates on yearly planning
    • Owns the pre-sell, maps recommendations to established goals, and educates clients on the benefits/value of the work
    • Manage expectations and knows how to escalate issues and risks in complex situations and also providing solutions
    • Acts as the escalation point for day-to-day clients
  • Team Leadership
    • Is recognized by other departments as effectively balancing client and AKQA demands, while still delivering high impact work
    • Engenders trust, leads and inspires colleagues through passion for clients, their business and the work and thrives in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment
    • Is the go-to resource for the team’s concerns, point of view and recommendations, checks in regularly with all team members on a 1:1 basis for ad hoc feedback, and schedules regular program leadership meetings to ensure constant alignment
    • Partners with the Program, Creative, UX, Strategy and Analytic leads on the account to have a cohesive and strong leadership team
    • Reports into and works with the Group Account Director that is across the Mayo account to ensure communication is clear across the account, issues are escalated, opportunities are identified and that there is consistent leadership across the account
    • Be able to see both the large picture and small picture when it come to the holistic goals of the account as well as what is needed on a day-to-day basis
  • Business Strategy
    • Acts as a leader of brand, business, and customer insight in client teams, peer groups and internal meetings
    • Is an expert in synthesizing customer and business insights, and shaping creative that leads to impactful and breakthrough customer experiences
    • Establishes and executes client business plans that align with the goals of AKQA, the goals of the overall Mayo account and communicates plan with the working team to give context on key decisions
    • Creates high-impact client presentations and is comfortable presenting to large cross functional groups
    • Strong negotiating skills
  • Delivery & Financial Management (in conjunction with PM)
    • Responsible for driving the quality of the agency’s work, on-going client and internal communication, organic business growth, program P+L, and financial management and reporting
    • Consistently identified as a leader in program execution. Successfully delivers the execution of complex, cross-capability programs that result in sustainable results
    • Establishes program structure, team structure and working model to set the team up for success
    • Demonstrates strong fiscal management skills, understanding/respecting the economics of our business and contributing in a way that supports the financial model
    • Proactively searches out best practices to strengthen team delivery
    • Identify resource gaps and works with Resourcing + Leadership to fill them
    • Works with leadership on investment plan, if needed
    • Anticipates issues before they arise and resolves blockers quickly


  • 7+ years Agency Experience
  • Experience in working with healthcare (non pharma)
  • Demonstrated ability to lead challenging Digital Product & Platform experienced
  • Excellent leadership and strategic understanding of all disciplines of marketing
  • Ability to lead and manage snr clients and teams across multiple avenues and all disciplines
  • Desire and ability to sell in innovative work and knowledgeable about new trends in digital
  • Exceptional organizational skills and ability to prioritize in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment
  • Strong attention to detail and is organized, specifically when it comes to client creative deliverables
