Associate Technology Director

The Associate Technology Director is responsible for leading a team of 12 developers to deliver premium digital technical solutions.  They must ensure the teams’ output is technically excellent and exceeds quality goals and client expectations. The role will involve owning technical strategy, building and managing client relationships consulting with clients, acting as an escalation point and collaborating with relevant teams to create innovative solutions. The Associate Technology Director must at all times seek to improve internal practices and procedures and foster a professional and supportive environment for staff development.

  • Act as a trusted advisor to our clients and champion technology
  • Deep understanding of technology best practices, front-end and back-end perspectives, web protocols, architecture, and infrastructure (including Silverstripe). Architecting and building digital customer experiences.
  • Design and lead a fit-for-purpose team to deliver that vision. Leading cross-functional team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications. Comfortable engaging with and advising senior stakeholders, shaping technology recommendations, and writing proposals. Experience presenting and pitching
  • Contribute to the wider AKQA technology offering and collaborate effectively with the Auckland technology team, and other technology leaders across AUNZ
  • Champion best-practice and progressive approaches to technology, security, and privacy - and have a vision for the future of the Wellington office



  • Strong technology background from either a backend or frontend perspective
  • Professional written and verbal communication
  • Experience leading and growing a team
  • Understanding of formal project management methodologies
  • Solid understanding of the web: protocols, web architectures, infrastructure, web servers, proxies, load balancing, high availability, etc.
