Senior Art Director

At AKQA, we believe in the imaginative application of art and science to create beautiful ideas, products and services. With an entrepreneurial and collaborative approach, we design adaptive digital services and experiences that capture the imagination and deliver impressive results for our clients.

Creatives at AKQA apply artistry and craftsmanship to strategic insights, and bring to life beautiful ideas that move the world. As skilled storytellers and conceptors, they work with multidisciplinary teams to conceptualise, develop and produce work that spans storytelling, design and experience.

Art directors play an essential role in the strategy, conception and design of beautiful ideas, products and services. They bring exceptional creative thought and they craft output, owning projects from brief through to delivery.

As an Art Director, you provide craft and creative leadership for the accounts you work on, push creative thinking and output on every brief, and help shape the creative culture of the studio.

  • Create and manage original, persuasive and conceptually compelling work for campaigns, content and experiences, across a variety of clients.
  • Listen to and respond to briefs, and question where there are gaps.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments including Experience & Product Design, Client Services and Delivery.
  • Be client facing, present creative work to both internal and client stakeholders, and be the creative go-to on accounts you work on.
  • Own and manage projects with some oversight from a Creative Director, remaining accountable for the delivery of creative output that meets AKQA standards for creative excellence.
  • Mentor or manage junior members of the team.
  • Help shape the culture and output of the creative department as a senior leader, with guidance from your CD/GCD.

  • You have a compelling portfolio of work that demonstrates high-quality conceptual thinking and art direction across a variety of mediums and clients.
  • You embrace challenges and inspire new ways of thinking.
  • You’re a strategic thinker who knows how to bring an idea to life.
  • You’ve got experience working in collaborative, multi-disciplinary teams.
  • You have demonstrated experience overseeing large productions.
  •  Strong presentation skills, visual and written.
  • You have a breadth of cultural reference points.
  • Experience working directly with clients and nurturing client relationships is essential.
  • Previous experience managing direct reports, interns or small teams is advantageous.
  • You have a drive to break boundaries and craft the best ideas of their kind in the world.
  • You are passionate, driven and obsessed about your craft and stay on top of best practice in your field.
  • You have extensive experience with software like Adobe Creative Cloud, Figma and Keynote.
  • A degree in Design, Interaction Design, Visual Studies or other design-related field preferred.
