Senior Front End Developer

You will work closely with designers to transform visual design into code, with engineers to  inform API designs and with quality assurance analysts to ultimately create elegant and intuitive solutions. 

Our web developers are accountable for developing web and mobile solutions for AKQA’s world-class clients that manage performance and scalability.

  • 5 years of experience working with React, or another modern JavaScript framework. (We use React.)
  • Highly comfortable with SSR / Jamstack concepts (We use Next.js.)
  • Experience working on large or complex code bases
  • A solid understanding of JavaScript and the web application ecosystem
  • Mastery of advanced styling and animation techniques (CSS3, SVG, springs, canvas...)
  • Knowledge of design tools such as Figma or Sketch
  • Experience with CI/CD and unit testing
  • Proficient with Git and its related tooling (branching flow, CLI commands, etc.)
  • Committed to performance, code quality, good practice and delivering high end products.
  • Interest in mentoring developers (presentations, code-review, pair-programming, engagement in discipline guilds etc.)

Nice to have skills

  • Headless CMS and/or Commerce experience. (Any experience with content modelling will be beneficial.)
  • Experience with TypeScript. (If you don’t know it, you will be required to learn it.)
  • Experience with design systems and their tooling (e.g. Storybook)
  • Knowledge of Cloud Solutions (AWS, Azure) and devops tools (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Familiarity with Atlassian Tools (Jira, Bitbucket, Confluence)


  • Work hands-on with the development of a range of solutions including website, web apps, CI pipelines, micro services
  • Take the lead position in development projects
  • Work closely with others departments to ensure good collaboration across all disciplines and to facilitate the solving of day-to-day challenges
  • Champion effective technical decision-making for clients by understanding their business goals and objectives
  • Minimise technical risk and ensure a high-quality output
  • Contribute to front end (and full stack) technical architectures
  • Mentor mid level and junior team members (conduct code reviews, share best practices, contribute our Web Applications Guild, etc)
  • Provide technical answers to solve client problems

Provide estimates for development tasks for yourself and other developers on the team

  • Commit to development time during a sprint
  • Be client facing, interact with clients on technical topics
