User Interface Design Lead

Millipede is a purposeful app experience creation agency. A specialist member of the global AKQA family, Millipede crafts pioneering, joyful digital products that inspire people of all ages to learn, laugh, and tap to play one more time.

From explorative playful environments that inspire learning, to chart-topping games that promote real-world behaviours, to deftly realised mobile apps that help enable brighter futures, Millipede’s vision provides people with meaningful ways of engaging with the world from the palm of their hands.

As a Design Lead, you will approach each new brief with fresh eyes, avoiding familiar solutions while generating useful, usable and delightful ideas across existing and emerging platforms. You will champion human-centered design processes and techniques and be a brand advisor for our clients. You bring exceptional creative thought and craft output, a strong collaborative intent, and are able to manage projects from brief to end user.

Located in Melbourne, you will work in an innovative and inclusive culture alongside exceptional people. You will have the opportunity to learn and grow within a creative and technically advanced team and have access to ongoing personal and professional development. At Millipede, we are committed to looking out for each other – we are flexible, transparent and passionate. We love what we do and each of us is empowered to impact the processes, performance and direction of the business as a whole.

  • Drive, inspire, mentor and support the multi-disciplinary team to deliver end-to-end projects from a design perspective, ensuring outcomes meet business and user goals.
  • Ensure a collaborative 'one team' approach of both client and agency.
  • Evolve, present and communicate our design vision to stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate thoughtful design, usability and accessibility principles and standards, via artefacts such as user flows and wireframes.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of how your designs flow through the software development life cycle and work closely with project managers and technical engineers.
  • Produce prototypes using tools such as Figma, and articulate polished final assets.
  • Identify new opportunities to improve design process with other team members and disciplines.

  • Exceptional design aesthetics and craft.
  • An enthusiastic desire to work across a wide range of mobile projects; from consumer apps through to games, educational and creative experiences.
  • Able to work autonomously in a fast-paced creative environment, fostering a thriving team culture that enables us to attract and retain the best staff.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • A sophisticated eye for illustration, animation and motion design (you don’t need on-tools skills in these domains).
  • An innovative playful spirit, an avid interest in design and technology, a collegial mindset, and wide-ranging curiosity.
