Insight

Connecting customers around the world to New Zealand’s largest co-operative.

The shift from in-person interactions to virtual processes across products, logistics and sales accelerated for businesses around the globe throughout the pandemic.

As the world’s largest dairy exporter, Fonterra has historically relied on real-world, face-to-face activity to drive sales. With the pandemic ceasing such visits, Fonterra required an alternative shop window.

Idea

A VIP pass to explore Fonterra New Zealand, from anywhere in the world.

Visit Fonterra is an immersive digital experience that gives customers the opportunity to explore the complete farm-to-plate supply chain from anywhere in the world. Topics within each chapter cover key strategic pillars such as sustainability, innovation, and food safety and quality.

Rich imagery and film contrasts New Zealand’s incredible landscape with Fonterra’s world-class manufacturing operations whilst conveying the undeniable pride of the farming families and employees that make up the dairy co-operative.

Impact

From short-term fix to valuable business asset.

While Visit Fonterra helped maintain connection with customers through the pandemic, its value has extended well beyond travel restrictions. It has now become a permanent addition to co-op’s customer experience offerings, allowing much broader audiences to experience Fonterra, well beyond those that have historically been able to visit physically.

To date, the site has had 16K virtual visitors to the platform from 135 countries. Due to its popularity, Fonterra has since developed versions for employee inductions, a kiosk-driven trade show and a complete Mandarin translation for Chinese audiences

It’s always exciting when you feel confident sharing a new piece of digital technology and seeing the faces of people light up when they are interacting with it.
