Associate Web Developer

As an Associate Web Developer, you'll play a key role in supporting our development team, contributing to the building and maintenance of our web applications. This is an excellent opportunity to expand your knowledge and develop your skills within a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Located in Berlin, Germany, as part of the AKQA team, you will work in an environment that fosters a dynamic and meritocratic culture, surrounded by some of the brightest minds in their fields.
ROLE REQUIREMENTS
- Develop and enhance responsive, accessible web applications
- Apply core web development principles — clean code, maintainability, accessibility, and performance — regardless of framework
- Use AI-powered tools (GitHub Copilot, Cursor) to speed up development, troubleshoot, and explore new technologies
- Collaborate in Agile teams, contributing to sprint planning, standups, and reviews
- Work with APIs, databases, and content platforms (headless CMS, AEM, Contentful, etc.)
- Learn and adopt new languages, frameworks, or workflows as projects demand
- Participate in code reviews, testing, and documentation
- Stay updated with web development trends, AI-assisted coding, and emerging best practices
QUALITIES AND CHARACTERISTICS
- Strong understanding of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript fundamentals
- Strong grasp of core programming principles
- Basic understanding of version control (Git/GitHub)
- Eagerness to learn new languages and frameworks quickly using AI tools
- Curiosity and willingness to experiment with different tech stacks (SPA, MACH, Jamstack)
- Mindset for problem-solving and adaptability over memorizing syntax
- Experience with design systems and its tooling (StoryBook)
- Knowledge of design tools such as Sketch or Figma
- You have a collaborative spirit and an open-minded approach
- Good organizational skills and methodical approach
- Boundlessly creative and relentlessly attentive to detail
- Eager to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
- You proactively plan your activities according to goals and deadlines, while always ensuring a high level of quality
AI & Emerging Tech Fluency:
- Interest in building AI-enhanced experiences
- Familiarity with integrating LLM-based APIs (OpenAI, Claude, etc.)
- Understanding of AI orchestration tools (e.g. LangChain) and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) concepts
- Comfortable exploring AI-first UX patterns that reshape digital interactions
Nice-to-Have Skills:
- Exposure to React, Next.js, Vue, or similar frameworks
- Familiarity with CMS platforms (AEM, Contentful)
- Knowledge of APIs, GraphQL, or backend basics
- Understanding of accessibility (WCAG), performance optimization, and SEO
- Experience with testing tools
- Knowledge of Cloud Solutions (AWS, Azure) and devops tools (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Experience with CI, CD and / or Unit Testing
