Changing perceptions

A man with long hair and a beard, wearing a black jacket, gestures while speaking to an audience in a classroom or seminar setting, with a projection screen displaying partial text behind him.

“Change your assumptions and you will change your perceptions.”

Beau Lotto, neuroscientist, entrepreneur and author, joined the AKQA team and set to challenge the way they perceive the world around them. Through a series of visual and audio demonstrations, Beau explained how our senses cannot always be relied upon to provide us with the truth. Our minds constantly work to fill in the gaps of the information around us – making assumptions based on previous knowledge and other external stimuli.

While our brains are subject to illusions, Beau assured everyone that the assumptions we make every day actually help us to stay alive. But to see differently, he urged his audience to “change your assumptions and you will change your perceptions.”
