Palms Unstatus Quo

Insight

The newly redeveloped Palms resort in Las Vegas transforms the city’s traditional gaming and entertainment, with a subversive mix of extraordinary popular culture.

The redevelopment project is one of the city’s largest ever, and it transcends the traditional Las Vegas Strip formula, blending classic hospitality with influential artists, musicians and performers. The launch event needed to showcase this contemporary vibrancy as a new type of Las Vegas experience.

A man in sunglasses adjusts the sleeve of a purple Gucci jacket worn by another man standing in front of him, inside a colorful, graffiti-covered room with shelves and books in the background.
A person stands in front of a wood-paneled wall, painting thick white stripes across a framed portrait and the wall, with light from wall sconces illuminating the scene.
A woman in a black dress sits on a couch, holding and fanning out stacks of cash in both hands, with piles of money around her and more bills falling in the air. The setting is luxurious with gold accents.
A group of people sit in a dimly lit room, all wearing white bucket-shaped masks with black cartoonish eyes and smiles, resembling the Marshmello DJ helmet. The lighting casts a blue hue over the scene.

Idea

An all-star cast of pop-culture icons and friends of the Palms, all of whom are known for breaking convention, unite to show the new resort’s authentic connection to the worlds of art, food, music and fashion, with the mantra ‘Unstatus Quo’.

The high-energy launch experience comprises a short film with accompanying music release, plus bespoke giveaways, fashion collaborations, unique art shows and intimate performances, with the new Palms as the backdrop for the action. A corresponding online platform allows seamless browsing and booking of all Palms facilities and activities.

The film is directed by Grammy Award-winner Sam Brown, and features performers including Cardi B and Rita Ora, alongside the work of artists including Damien Hirst and Andy Warhol. The soundtrack is produced by recording artist and designer Duckwrth, with cover artwork by visual artist Jason REVOK.

Impact

Unstatus Quo has established the new Palms as not just a hospitality brand, but a culture brand, thus elevating the Palms to an agent of progress for the city.

The experience has received 75 million video views and 500 million media impressions, with coverage including Billboard, Forbes, the Grammy Awards, Vibe, and Hypebeast. Unstatus Quo has subverted traditional Las Vegas expectations, with an unconventional mindset that pioneers a new cultural era for the city.
