Levi’s The Cover-Up

Problem

For the 2026 World Cup, FIFA required non-sponsor branding at host stadiums to be covered, including the Levi’s® logo at Levi’s® Stadium. But the white sheet covering the logo still retained its unique, unmistakable shape. In trying to hide the brand, FIFA had inadvertently demonstrated just how recognisable it was.

Background

Levi’s® Stadium was hosting the world’s biggest sporting event, but because Levi’s® wasn’t an official sponsor, its branding had to disappear.

Ambition

Turn a restriction designed to hide Levi’s® logo into a global demonstration of the brand’s iconic recognition.

Idea How would they know?

A restrictive sponsorship rule became an opportunity to fuel a cultural conversation. We called attention to the cover-up with a social film built around the iconic “How would they know?” trending audio and an updated profile picture with a redacted logo, turning FIFA’s attempt to hide Levi’s® into a joke anyone on the internet could understand, and play along with.

Turning censorship into a global conversation.

Role

Social Listening
01

Social Listening

Recognised that FIFA’s restriction had accidentally created a powerful demonstration of Levi’s® brand recognition.

Agile Response
02

Agile Response

Turned a real-time observation into a social idea crafted around a trending format while the conversation was happening.

Visual Language
03

Visual Language

Developed the covered logo into a flexible creative system that travelled beyond the stadium and into social, talent, and retail.

04

Scalability

Expanded a single cultural moment into an globally recognised campaign.

“What started as a casual observation and a timely, socially-fluent response, ignited a wildfire of cultural conversation. It’s everything we all love about this brand and this job and we enjoyed every minute.”
- Kellie Hansen, Global Head of Social, Levi’s

Result

By moving at the speed of the conversation, a restriction designed to hide Levi’s® logo instead put the brand at the center of a global cultural moment. What began with one covered logo grew across social, stores and limited-edition product, driven as much by the audience as the brand itself.
